Ed Tech for LIFE SKILLS
Life skills are critical for navigating adulthood successfully. Nevertheless, traditional education has dropped these invaluable lessons from curriculums. But, there is a silver lining. This opens the door for technology to impart this wisdom in a way youth will respond to…
Why Technology is the Best Way to Teach Kids Life Skills
Why ed tech is so powerful — especially in children’s education — is simple…
LEARNING THROUGH PLAY.
Today, kids are shying away from Barbies or Hot Wheels in favor of techy entertainment — i.e. video games. As a result, the teaching method has to evolve to keep them engaged.
Real know-how should be prioritized alongside subjects like reading and math as e-learning develops.
That being said, there are specific life skills the perfect program would contain…
What Life Skills Should Ed Tech Include?
Granted, certain things are best learned one-on-one and in person…
A VR SIMULATOR FOR CHANGING A TIRE WOULD LOOK SILLY, TO SAY THE LEAST!
However, there are life skills that can easily be learned and absorbed from an ed tech platform. The following is what we consider the minimum starting point to get youth ready for life’s obstacles…
Goal-Setting
Setting goals should be the first basic life skill for any software on the subject. Think about it this way…
Can you achieve anything without knowing what you want to accomplish?
Furthermore, did anyone ever teach you how big to set your goals?
And if you were encouraged to set targets for yourself, you were simply advised it was a good practice.
Lack of guidance in the area causes youth to suffer poor mental health. Then once they know what they want, they need a strategy on how to get it.
Executing Plans
One of the most wonderful things about children is their limitless ability to hope and dream.
UNFORTUNATELY, THEY SHRINK THESE GRAND SCHEMES AS THEY GROW UP…
This occurs because no one gives them a guideline on how to create an action plan. Nor, are they shown the correct degree of effort it takes to make progress.
For that reason, defining and acting on a game plan should be added to adolescents’s toolbox.
Communicating
We can all agree that effective communication is one of the most important essential life skills there are.
So few people — even grown adults — lack this fundamental ability, that it is shocking.
Nevertheless, the principles of being understood are simple. A solid ed tech program would include a module on getting one’s ideas across.
That would be priceless to individuals of all ages.
Rallying Support
I bet you have either heard or said this saying at some point in your life…
CHILDREN SHOULD BE SEEN AND NOT HEARD.
This statement intends to help tired parents and teachers. So, it is effective in that way. But it is a hindrance to the future adult who needs to pitch an idea or is seeking a promotion…
In life, people have to sell themselves to reach further levels of success. After all, a network of support gets things done.
E-learning can show our future generations how to rally forces to boost great ideas and creative thinking.
Using Money as a Tool
Finally, the last of the life skills on this list is how to use money. A comprehensive toolkit for young adults requires a course on financial literacy.
Overspending, debt, and living paycheck-to-paycheck are far too common problems in this country. Believe it or not, this is not due to a lack of self-control.
Wealth-creation strategies are instrumental in easing the temptation for our youth to turn to crime. But where do we start filling that need with technology?
Current Gap in Real-World Financial Education
There is a general lack of financial education. Evidence of this is apparent in nationwide poverty levels.
To empower future generations, understanding how money works must be included. Namely, how to earn it, multiply, and invest it.
THE EARLIER THESE LIFE SKILLS ARE TAUGHT TO YOUNG PEOPLE, THE SOONER THEY BECOME SUCCESSFUL ADULTS.
And in the end, that is the purpose of all of life’s lessons — formal or otherwise — happy and healthy adults.
It’s our keep this as the foundation and heart of technological advances.
Be Great,
